JUNE 18, 2006 - PLANES, AUTOMOBILES AND MOTORCYCLES
After the relaxing cruise around the lake that Terri lives on, we vegged around for the evening. Sunday morning dawned bright and sunny with only puffs of clouds in the sky. It was warm outside, but I could have slept in for more time than I did. Terri's dog is a black lab that is now 11 years old. He is a stitch to watch, because he has these little tricks that he has developed if he feels he is not getting enough attention.
While I write these entries, I sometimes drum on the table top or desk top. This is fine if you are alone in a M O T E L room or at the Sands in Atlantic City, but when you do that in the presence of a dog that thinks he is the alpha male, he has to show you that HE and only HE has the capability to "serve and protect". Then when he finds out that it was your fingers banging on the table and NOT some burglar trying to illicitly enter the house, he has to justify his carryings on by picking up an item and bringing it over to you as if to say "NOW THAT I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION, LET'S PLAY WITH THIS LITTLE ITEM I HAVE FOR YOU RIGHT HERE!!!!!"
I wasn't buying it. No way. I told him as much, too. I think he actually understood me.
Terri and I had decided to go to the Smithsonian Air and Space museum out at Dulles Airport. I had seen the building on the Mall in DC, but never the big oue out at the airport. It is very interesting with many one of a kind aircraft. There are some Japanese and German aircraft that once numbered in the tens of thousands for each model, and now, only one example remains. There in awesome silence, is the modified B29, ENOLA GAY, that dropped the first Atomic bomb in history. Some other examples of world record flights exist to be seen as well, and not all are of a military nature. All in all, it was a very fulfilling experience, and worth the effort to get there for. IMAX continuously runs a variety of films. We saw the one concerning the building of the space station. It is extremely well done and is thrilling when seen in IMAX.
When we got back to my niece's home, I happened to go on line just to see how much it would cost to look at flights to Detroit. Believe it or not, I found that Northwest had a flight out the next morning (Monday) for only $100.00 round trip. Terri said she could get me to the airport, and Bob told me he could pick me up, so I thought, what the heck. It would be a Father's Day present to myself. So I booked the flights, and headed for bed and the morning. I will fly home tomorrow, on the 19th, and fly back on Friday, the 23rd of June. No one know's I am coming except Bob. I covered the bike for the week's rest and went to bed.
