"IN MEMORY OF MARY LOGSDON" - IN NOTE SECTION OF CHECK
JUNE 20-21, 2006 - "IT NEVER RAINS IN CALIFORNIA, SO GIRL, LET ME WARN YA….IT POURS, MAN, IT POURS"
The last two days have been busy with seeing the most beautiful grand daughter ever born in human history and talking with various media people about Ovarian Cancer and the need for those in research to "catch up" with the researchers who have been tremendous strides in treating both breast cancer and cervical cancer. Ovarian cancer is still way down the list of achievements made in getting just an early detection test, let alone a cure.
The reason this trip was undertaken was to make people aware of ovarian cancer, ans what it can mean to any woman who contracts the disease. I was interviewed by a local paper today, and the Detroit Free Press this afternoon. In both cases, I mentioned the fact that if everyone who sent in just one dollar to the Gail Purtan Fund, perhaps; just maybe, it would be that dollar that allowed four more minutes of research - the necessary four minutes - that could mean the difference between life or death for some woman somewhere.
Yesterday, the 20th, I walked around downtown Royal Oak, Michigan, to be with my son and Mariel, my granddaughter. I loved the experience. I also watched this precious little girl and wondered if she might have to still deal with the terror of being told that she had ovarian cancer. It is my fervent wish; my most ardent desire, that no woman should have to deal with this anymore. I love my children and my "new" children (my son in law and daughter in law) more than my own life. I love my beautiful granddaughter beyond any measure whatsoever.
I hope this helps in some small way to push those who read this, to send in just one dollar. Just one. Make a difference. If you can afford $5.00, then send that in to the address above. Let's make every effort to eradicate the most deadly of all gynecological diseases known to exist.
It is good to be home for this short time. It has brightened my day and made this rain more tolerable. Today, it has rained very hard with lightening and thunder. It has been very entertaining. Of course, I can say that, since I have not been on a motorcycle since I got to my niece's house in Virginia. All that changes when I grab the handle grips upon my return on June 23, Friday. It has felt good to "reconnect" again, however briefly. My family has been a wonderful support for me while on this trek.
Friday, I leave from DTW and arrive in Washington to begin heading south. The plan is to head clear down to Key West, then turn around and take the Florida gulf coast up and around to Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and points west. We have a huge and beautiful country. I can't wait to see what is over the next hill and around the next curve. Whatever it is, it will help make a memory, I am sure
