"IN MEMORY OF MARY LOGSDON" - IN NOTE SECTION OF CHECK
JUNE 26, 2006 - CAPE HATTERAS LIGHT
CAPE HATTERAS LIGHT
Two years gone from Mystic's Sound
Around dreaded Cape Horn we found
The prizes of our lengthy run.
The many dangers of pursuing whales
Did more for us than mighty gales
And we were thinking it great fun.
But homeward bound we have such fright
And suffering Nemo's Might
We can't find Cape Hatteras Light
No horn is sounding in the fog
But it should be near by the log
What fate awaits us; are we done?
I hear breakers; they are close
But Cape Hatteras Light shines not a dose
Of hope for us; has the end come?
Two years gone
Great fortunes won
And now, we're done
We can't find Cape Hatteras Light
MARK LOGSDON
Today would have been the 36th anniversary of my being married to Mary. Today was a celebration. Today was an enjoyable time, knowing that I was serving a purpose.
The trip down the Outer Banks was a great and leasurely one, although it rained every chance it could. Still, it was very enjoyable. There was a small ferry that took a 40 minute run to the next string of very thin islands. Of course, when the damn thing docked, it started to rain. Let me tell you about rain on the Outer Banks.
It has that wonderful salty smell and taste. It has that overbearing feel, too, because it gets in the eyes and makes them burn like the fires of h…. you get the idea. There is something that is added to the mix, however. It's windy out here on the OBX, Outer Bankx. So, there is that added sensation of having your face washed with wet sandpaper.
I must admit, though, that my skin feels much softer and has less wrinkles; and is smooth and creamy feeling - does this rain suit make me look fat?

There, I am back. I got to see a couple of the light houses that are part of the National Park System. The Cape Hatteras Light inspired the offering above. Take it or leave it.
Oh, then I got the chance to take another Ferry ride. This ferry left from Cape Hatteras and docked 2:20 minutes later at Cedar Island. If the rain wasn't so difficult to deal with, I would have been able to take more pictures. As it is, there will be a few posted in another submission. I have to say that the rain out on the banks is a tough nut to crack. It was a relief to be able to relax for those couple of hours.
Tonight BOOM I am in BOOM Jacksonville BOOM North BOOM Carolina BOOM. I am very BOOM close BOOM to the BOOM Marine BOOM base known as BOOM Camp BOOM Lejeune. BOOM the Marines BOOM must be bad shots BOOM BOOM because they are having BOOM cannon practice somewhere BOOM within earshot.
I thought it was thunder. It isn't. Now, will I sleep well tonight? I hope so.
I spent some time in Morehead North Carolina. I thought for a minute that I might move there, but nothing was happening that could compel me to stay. So, I left.
