AUGUST 6, 2006 - LIKE A ROCK

We were up and at them at 8:30 this morning. Oh, yeah, early - really early. Of course, Mel was up at 6:00 AM. We had breakfast and got on the road so that I would get a chance to do two things. I was able to chalk up an extra state and I was able to see the Grand Teton's. I even had the opportunity to see Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

The entire day was filled with new and ever changing vistas that defy the English language the ability to accurately describe that which is seen. I was continually humbled by the sheer mass of the landscape surrounding us. The range of mountains, when up close and personal, are every bit as breathtaking as the mountains that Mary and I had seen at the top of Italy on our trip there so many years ago.

I kept having flashbacks to that trip and the Mont Blanc area of Italy. I pictured the town of Courmior in the Aosta Valley of Italy, when I was standing in Wyoming. It was a moving experience made more interesting by the sheer volume of pictures taken during the day.

I now have a problem. I have to pick which of these to publish. That task is going to be monumental. Tomorrow, we leave early to get to the West entrance of Yellowstone National Park. I will be headed home the day after tomorrow.

I miss my home and my family and friends. Yesterdays rainbow enhanced that feeling.

Mark, Your writings and pictures are absolutely outstanding! I marvel at the sights you have seen and the people that you have touched. I know that you miss everyone here and at times feel very lonely, but I hope that you continue to feel the love and support of all us that travel with you vicariously. You have to look hard in your sideview mirror because we are all right there, just about a day behind you in your travels! Think of those Verizon commercials! We certainly miss you too. (I would bet that in the last 30 years, this is the longest I have gone without seeing you). But I applaud you and greatly respect you for having the guts and determination to take this trip. I had hoped that this trip would be good for you and would increase the awareness of the importance of ovarian cancer research. Never did I imagine, however, that it would impact me too. Your pictures and writings provide us all with a wonderful glimpse into the marvels of our country, which I knew were there, but which I now have a greater respect for. Your experiences rekindle the idea that, although we often hear about the bad things that happen, there really are good people out there, even total strangers, who are kind and considerate and supportive of other fellow human beings. Thanks again for taking me along on one of your grand ideas! Love Always, Beth
